More information, a brief history and our verdict on the Range Rover Evoque

The Range Rover Evoque is a stylish compact SUV that has a loyal following. The latest version was introduced in 2019 and brought newfound levels of luxury to the premium sector – one that includes formidable alternatives such as the Audi Q3 Sportback, BMW X2, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40

The Range Rover Evoque also has an internal Jaguar Land Rover challenger in the shape of the Jaguar E-Pace.

The original Range Rover Evoque broke new ground back in 2011. It was different to any other compact SUV and introduced the Range Rover brand to an entirely new set of customers, thanks to its much greater affordability. The Evoque hasn't looked back.

The latest Range Rover Evoque is a super-cool and sophisticated machine. It’s even more luxurious than the original, with ultra-precise detailing on the outside and a warm, welcoming feel inside. It’s every inch the authentic Range Rover, just smaller in size.

Not that it’s particularly cramped on the inside, despite its sub-4.4-metre length. Smart engineering means there’s more space in the rear, even for adults, while the boot is comparable to many estate cars. It’s a cultured machine to drive as well, with ample refinement and a relaxed, easygoing feel.

Like all Land Rovers, the Range Rover Evoque is also outstanding off-road. This is another area where the brand sets itself apart from its rivals. You may never fully use its extraordinary off-road ability, but it's still reassuring to know it’s there, particularly when the weather gets inclement.

Range Rover Evoque models, trims, specs, engine sizes and more

Befitting its status as a luxury-focused SUV, the Range Rover Evoque is available in a broad range of specifications. Entry-level diesel versions come in either Evoque or Evoque S grades, but all other models add in the R-Dynamic styling pack. This has a more distinctive exterior look, including the trademark bonnet inserts.

There is a full range of engines as well, including lots of petrol and diesel motors, plus a plug-in hybrid with a generous pure electric range. The Range Rover Evoque P300e even has clever onboard sat-nav, which can save the battery for use only in defined zero-emission zones.

All but one version of the Range Rover Evoque – the entry-level diesel – has a standard nine-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive is included on all but this basic D165 version, too.

  • Range Rover Evoque P200 petrol:The starting point for petrol engines is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 204PS. It does 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds and, like all petrol-engined models, all-wheel drive is standard. It averages up to 31.4mpg.

  • Range Rover Evoque P250 petrol: The P250 is a 249PS version of the same engine, with 0-62mph taking 7.6 seconds. It has the same fuel economy and CO2 emissions from 203g/km.

  • Range Rover Evoque P300 petrol: The most powerful iteration of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine produces 300PS, while ample torque of 400Nm gives 0-62mph acceleration in 6.8 seconds. It’s still able to average nearly 31mpg.

  • Range Rover Evoque D165 diesel: The basic 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 163PS and, in base six-speed manual and front-wheel-drive guise, averages up to 46.3mpg. Zero to 62mph takes 10.1 seconds. The all-wheel-drive auto version is more convenient but pricier, while fuel economy dips to 43.7mpg.

  • Range Rover Evoque D200 diesel: The D200 is a better bet if you’re willing to spend a bit more on a diesel-engined Range Rover Evoque. With 204PS, 0-62mph takes 8.5 seconds, plus it can still average 43.2mpg.

  • Range Rover Evoque P300e PHEV: The plug-in hybrid Range Rover Evoque pairs a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine to an electric motor for total system power of 309PS. It has a pure electric range of up to 39 miles – although not if you use full acceleration for 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds…

Range Rover Evoque features as standard & optional extras

The Range Rover Evoque features as standard an appealing spec that includes LED front and rear lights, fuel-saving 17-inch alloys, dual-zone climate control air-con and heated front seats. The firm’s advanced Pivi infotainment system is included as well, complete with a 10-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Choose the Range Rover Evoque S and extra standard features include 18-inch alloys, power-fold door mirrors, a heated windscreen, leather seats and Pivi Pro infotainment with fully connected sat-nav.

What does the Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic add? Well, there’s the eye-catching R-Dynamic exterior styling pack, plus dark aluminium interior trim, chrome tread plates and metal pedals. R-Dynamic S has more standard features, such as wireless smartphone charging and adaptive cruise control.

The Range Rover Evoque Edition has a curated standard spec that includes 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, black leather trim and a Meridian premium sound system. There’s a high-performance Range Rover Evoque HST too, which only comes with the P300 engine. It has red brake calipers, premium LED headlights and a Suedecloth steering wheel.

The most luxurious and exclusive Range Rover Evoque of all is the Autobiography. This has an abundance of standard features, including 21-inch alloys, matrix LED headlights, quilted and perforated Windsor leather upholstery, 14-way electric-adjust seats that are both heated and cooled, an extended leather interior upgrade and a Meridian surround-sound stereo.

All Range Rover Evoques offer a full range of optional extras, such as neat colour combinations and a huge array of different alloy wheel designs.

The Range Rover Evoque’s exterior dimensions are:

  • Length: 4,371mm
  • Width: 1,904mm
  • Height: 1,649mm
  • Ground clearance: 210mm
