Have you ever wondered what the engine from the new Audi R8 V10 plus sounds like when the entire rear end of the car has been removed? No, us neither. But if by some miracle you have actually asked this question, Audi has just released a video which should provide you with your answer.

If you click on the image below, you'll see, and hear, the R8's monstrous 550bhp accelerate at full throttle, screaming up through the rev range and spitting flames on the overrun.

It's all part of Audi's new 'Augmented-reality technology', a system which allows users of the free image-recognition app Blippar to watch the video by pointing their phone at print and poster adverts of the car.

Kristian Dean, National Communications Manager for Audi UK, said: "The use of Blippar technology allows people to interact immediately with the car, and get under its bonnet in a way they simply would not be able to do with a 2D advertisement alone.

"The new video content gives car enthusiasts the opportunity to hear the R8 V10 plus being taken to the red line."

Anyway, marketing guff aside, it is a pretty cool video. To watch it, simply aim your smartphone at an Audi billboard. Or click on the image below.
