Vauxhall have provided a UK jobs boost with the creation of 550 new roles, the largest single intake of new staff by the company for a decade.

Around 300 of those jobs will come at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, which currently employs around 1600 workers and will become the production home of the next generation Astra later next year.  A £125million investment plan at the Ellesmere Port facility was agreed as part of the new Astra deal.
Also announced was a significant increase in staff for the company’s Luton plant, where the Vauxhall Vivaro van is built.  The Luton factory currently employs around 1200 people, but the addition of a second shift in January 2015 will see this grow by around 250.  The move is to accommodate an increase in output arising from the recent  launch of the all-new Vivaro.
“This is great news for Vauxhall and for British manufacturing,” said Tim Tozer, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “Both of our UK manufacturing plants have won long contracts with all-new product and as the business strengthens, we now need to take on more people to build these exciting new Vauxhall's.”
