The Swift DDiS has won its class in the MPG Marathon, breaking the 86mpg mark in the process.

The latest addition to Suzuki's Swift range of cars, the frugal 1.3-litre DDis, has acheived an impressive win in the class 3 category of the 2011 MPG Marathon, and came in second overall. Driven by journalists Dave Randle and Peter Cracknell, the new swift with its 66bhp diesel engine managed an overall fuel consumption of 86.40mpg.

The MPG Marathon is an annual event organised by Fleet World Magazine, which this year saw 37 vehicles take on a 372 mile route that was designed to reflect ordinary daily driving conditions.

The winning Swift proved its eco-credentials by using just 19.6 litres of fuel, which gave it an improvement of 28.3% over the official combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 67.3mpg. A second DDis, driven by last year's class winners Dave Moss and Mike Hull, came in close behind with a fuel consumption figure of 84.6mpg.

The Director of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki, Dale Wyatt, commented on the win saying:

"The 2011 MPG Marathon has again been an excellent opportunity to showcase Suzuki's commitment to producing fuel efficient, cleaner cars and this event has certainly endorsed that."

With Suzuki's current 'no VAT' offer, which runs until the end of the year, a Swift 1.3 DDis five-door in SZ3 trim is priced at £11,125.
