Skoda has released pictures of its new small saloon, the Rapid.
The Rapid fits between the Fabia and the Octavia in the Skoda line-up and will compete with the similarly-sized Ford Focus and VW Golf, although it is likely to be significantly cheaper than both of them.
Although it looks like a saloon, the Rapid is actually a hatchback and features styling informed by Skoda's new design language. The chrome grille and new-style Skoda badge are both elements of Skoda's new corporate identity.
Skoda has yet to announce details of the Rapid's engine range, although expect the saloon to be offered with a range of VW petrol and diesel units, alongside an obligatory 'Greenline' low CO2 model.
Skoda CEO Winfried Vahland said, "The Skoda Rapid is a roomy, elegant and at the same time an affordable car for the whole family, impressing with clever solutions, cutting-edge technology and high economy."
The Rapid will make its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September and will be available to buy before the end of the year.
