British motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss will roll back the years and return to the driving seat of the iconic Maserati 250F Grand Prix car at next months Silverstone Classic event, it has been announced.

The 84-year-old Sir Stirling, arguably the greatest driver never to have been Formula One world champion, will drive the 250F at the head of two parades around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit during the 27th July 'Super Sunday' event.  The first parade will be the largest ever of Formula One rcing cars, and is to commerate the 50th occasion the Northamptonshire circuit has played host to the British Grand Prix.  The second parade will celebrate Maserati's 100th anniversary.

Moss and the Maserati 250F were a formidable partnership in the 1950s.  Sir Stirling acheived his first podium finish behind the wheel of a 250F at the 1954 Belgian Grand Prix held at the daunting Spa-Francorchamps track, and driving for the factory Maserati Grand Prix team two years later he won both at both Monaco and Monza.

The three-day Silverstone Classic event, hailed as the world's biggest classic motor racing event, begins on Friday 25 July.  Event Director Nick Wigley could barely contain his delight in confirming Sir Stirling Moss would be reunited with the 250F saying "Even in our wildest dreams, we couldn't have hopes for a finer sight".
