The 2011 Auto Shanghai Show in China has seen the unveiling of a new concept car from Peugeot.
The Peugeot SXC concept car was designed at the China Tech Centre in Shanghai, and the crossover model follows on from the SR1 roadster, BB1 city car, EX-1 two-seater electric, and HR1 city car concepts unveiled over the past year.
The SXC has a high driving position reminiscent of a small 4x4, but the styling characteristics of a large conventional saloon. It borrows styling features from recent Peugeot releases, with the floating front grille, LED running lights, and boomerang-style rear lamps. It makes extensive use of brushed aluminium, has a two-part panoramic roof, and sits on 22-inch alloy wheels.
The SXC incorporates Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology with a 218bhp 1.6-litre THP petrol engine driving the front wheels, and a 95bhp electric motor driving the rear. This combination gives a combined fuel economy of 48.7mpg, and 143g/km of CO2 emissions.
The Shanghai motor show also sees the debut of the new Peugeot 508 on the Chinese market, joining the recently released 207, 308, 408, and 3008. The Peugeot 508 goes on sale in the UK later this month.
