A half-demolished apartment block stands in the middle of a newly-built highway after a couple refused to move out of their home.

Planners wanted to raze the apartment block to the ground so they could build a road leading to a new railway station.

But Luo Baogen and his wife declined to sign an agreement to move out of their house in China's Zhejiang province, arguing that the compensation package they were offered was insufficient.

To ensure the couple's safety, adjacent rooms in the building have been left intact; however, only two families remain in the building.

Resident Zhang Ling told the Daily Mirror about the potential upside to living in the middle of a dual-carriageway, saying: "It could be a good opportunity for us. We could open up a drive through shop on the ground floor."
