Mercedes launched their new electric vehicle initiative at the Paris Motor Show last week. The new concept car has been given the moniker, Generation EQ.

The 'EQ' bit, according to the German manufacturer, stands for Electric Intelligence and this latest showpiece is essentially a preview of the future tech that Mercedes is going to be developing over the next three years.

The platform which has been used for this new concept electric SUV can be used on a wide range of vehicles, thanks to the module components and the battery packs it is as suited to a coupe-sized car as it is to this SUV.

As can be seen on the images, all the usual futuristic concept car stalwarts are in place; lots of screens, unusual looking seating, a lack of wing mirrors, and a lot of blue LED lighting. Or as Mercedes-Benz themselves put it:

"Generation EQ is hot and cool," says Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. "Its fascination lies in a reinterpretation of our design philosophy of sensual purity, the aim being to create an avant-garde, contemporary and distinctive electro-look. At the same time, the design of the visionary show car, which has been reduced to the essentials, reveals an alluring progressivity."

Brilliant.
