Jaguar has announced that it is to put its jet powered C-X75 into production.

The C-X75 debuted at last year’s Paris Motor Show and was revolutionary in that a traditional engine was ditched in favour of an independent electric motor for each wheel, coupled with two diesel-powered gas turbines.

For the production run, Jag has replaced the gas turbines with a conventional 1.6 litre four-pot turbo-petrol engine developed by the Formula One racing team Williams. Indeed, the engine is closely related to the engine that will be in the back of the Williams F1 car in 2013.

Thanks to a carbon-fibre chassis, the car will be lighter than a VW Golf. It will hit 60mph in under three seconds, 100mph in six and finally top out at an impressive 200mph. Power output will be somewhere above 800bhp. This is especially impressive when you realise that fewer than 100 grams of CO2 will be coming out of those tailpipes every kilometre.

Price-wise, it’ll be somewhere between £700,000 and £900,000.
