At the Auto Express New Car Honours 2011, Hyundai walked away with wins in the Best City Car and Best Supermini MPV categories.

Hyundai has enjoyed a strong showing at the well-respected Auto Express 2011 New Car awards, winning Best City Car for the i10 and Best Supermini MPV for the ix20.

The Hyundai i10 managed to fight off tough competition from the Ford Ka and Kia Picanto to win the Best City Car award for the second year in a row. Meanwhile the ix20 won for the first time after beating the Citreon C3 Picasso, Nissan Note and Kia Venga.

Graham Hope, who is the Acting Editor of Auto Express, commented on both cars saying:

"Competition in the city car sector is hotter than ever - and that makes the Hyundai i10's second consecutive victory in this category even more impressive. The i10 has the feel of a big car inside, while its composed driving dynamics mean it's as at home on the open road as on congested city streets."

"The ix20 shot straight to the top of the sector when it hit showrooms last year, and it fully deserves its class-leading status. Not only does this practical model look great, but it brings new levels of cabin quality and comfort to the supermini-MPV sector. Choose the ix20 and you also get the security of buying a car from one of the most highly regarded dealer networks in the country."

The latest awards mark another high point in what has been an excellent year so far for Hyundai. The firm's sales for the first half of 2011 were up by 20% compared to last year, and June 2011 sales are up 29.4% on June last year. The company has also won a series of high profile awards such as the Which? magazine 'Best Car Manufacturer 2011' prize.
