Criminals hoping to make a quick getaway could soon get the shock of their lives when they find a police Ford Focus RS on their tail.
A special version of the multi-award-winning Focus RS has been on test with several UK police forces, impressing elite traffic officers with its sub-five second 0-60mph acceleration. The five-door hatch body offers the practicality needed for a police car, with room in the back for arrested suspects and space in the boot for all those cones, but under the bonnet of this wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing is a 16-valve, four-cylinder, 2.3-litre turbocharged Ford EcoBoost engine producing a potent 345bhp.
With limited production numbers, Ford doesn’t expect too many Focus RS police cars to be put into service, but the manufacturer continues to be the wheels of choice for many UK police forces. Ford supplies over 1,500 vehicles to UK police forces, from the standard Focus and the Transit Custom commonly used for patrol duties, to the Kuga and Ranger models which are ideally suited to rural policing.
