The Chevrolet Volt is set to make a huge impact on the UK electric vehicle market with its incredible new technology.
While other electric vehicles are only able to travel a restricted distance between charges, the Chevrolet Volt will continue rolling even when the car has no life left.
Thanks to the innovative E-REV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) technology, the vehicle could be set to change the way we view electric vehicles in the UK.
Ground-breaking new technology
The E-REV technology in the Chevrolet Volt includes an on-board petrol generator. The generator maintains battery power when the car's electric range is depleted to enable the car to continue moving. The wheels are powered by its electric motor until the battery can be recharged at a point of convenience for the driver.
The car will shortly be available through two dedicated Volt centres- Cambridge Chevrolet in Cambridgeshire and Phoenix Chevrolet in Wimbledon.
Chevrolet UK Managing Director, Mark Terry, commented on the choice of venue, saying:
"We chose these two dealerships to appeal to the broadest reach of Volt buyers. Cambridge is a city geared toward the environment and new technology, as well as being home to the Faraday Institute, named after the inventor of electricity, while London is clearly where many existing users of electric vehicles reside, as well as where the industry sees the potential for the biggest initial growth in sales of EVs and their derivatives, such as E-REV."
The vehicle has recently received a number of awards, such as North American Car of the Year, Green Car of the Year, Motor Trend Car of the Year 2011 and 2011 World Green Car.
The announcement of the final UK specification of the Volt has revealed the model will include a number of premium features.
Heated leather seats, Bluetooth with voice recognition and embedded phone, electronic keyless ignition with touch button start, 17-inch alloy wheels and ambient LED-based interior lighting will be among these features.
