Have you ever fancied building your own electric car?

We thought not. However, a Japanese company called Modi Corp is convinced that there is a future for a DIY battery powered vehicle and has introduced this, the Pius.

The Pius is just over eight feet long and doesn't have a roof, and this is going to make it pretty unpleasant to drive when it rains; because of this, it's unlikely to be a winner in the UK.

What's more, with a top speed of 21mph and a range of 15 miles, you're not going to go very far or very fast in the Pius. We can't imagine it's terribly safe either.

Modi Corp has big hopes for the Pius and could be launching it as early as next spring. However, we have three main reservations about the tiny electric car which I shall list below:

  1. You'll look ridiculous in it.
  2. We had something similar in the UK 25 years ago. It was called the Sinclair C5 and it was about as popular as Betamax.
  3. It's rubbish.
