The Back To The Future films have confused their fair share of people over the years, no more so than yesterday.

Thousands of twitter users were tricked into thinking that yesterday was the day that Marty Mcfly arrived in the future, and frollicked around Hill Valley on his floating skateboard, when a screenshot was uploaded with the clock in the DeLorean’s future date set to Jun 27 2012.

A plethora of fans tweeted in excitement as this would mean Mr McFly could be strolling or hoverboarding around an American suburb trying to avoid his future-self. Unfortunately however, it wasn’t too long before the Back to the Future diehards ruined the fantasy by pointing out that we would have to wait another 3 years before we could see Marty for real, as the DeLorean was actually set to October 21 2015.

The picture, which caused all the excitement, was created on Photoshop by an unsuspecting Steve Berry, as a marketing ploy for the Back to the Future trilogy Blu-ray boxset. One twitter user, who tweeted the picture of the DeLorean dashboard, has been re-tweeted over 10,000 times! Great Scott!

Richard Herring was one man who spotted it was a hoax and humorously posted: “Didn't this Back to the Future hoax happen once before? I am getting a sense of deja vu. But maybe that was on a different timeline.”

One bonus however is that we still have 3 years for hoverboards to be invented and Jaws 19 to be released. If you are fed up of being tricked and cannot wait another 3 years until that exciting date in 2015, there is another option you might want to consider….

Do what the bloke in this video has done and become the Doc, make your own DeLorean, and set your own future time destination!
