Aston Martin have released new details of the engine that will power their next generation of mid-engined sportscars.

Dyno testing has been completed on the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 – codenamed the TM01 – which will be the first engine designed in-house by Aston Martin in over half-a-century.  It will form part of an electric hybrid powertrain which is currently being developed by Aston Martin, and one which they say will be the most powerful they have ever produced.  The powertrain will make its debut in the Aston Martin Valhalla, due in 2022.

Weighing in at less than 200kg, the new V6 will be mounted directly behind the cabin and use a dry sump system to aid a low centre of gravity, and for optimised lubrication performance during on-limit, high-speed cornering.   It has also been designed to meet all future emission requirements for Euro 7.

“Investing in your own powertrains is a tall order”, admitted Aston Martin boss Andy Palmler, “Our team have risen to the challenge. Moving forward, this power unit will be integral to a lot of what we do and the first signs of what this engine will achieve are incredibly promising.”
