Production of Aston Martin’s new 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine has gotten under way at the company’s Cologne plant in Germany.
The 600bhp unit will be used to power the new Aston Martin DB11, which will begin delivery later this year. The 200mph supercar, which accelerates from 0-62mph in just 3.9seconds, will become the most powerful DB model Aston Martin has ever produced.
The Cologne plant also produces Aston Martin’s 6.0-litre V12 and 4.7-litre V8 engines, with each one taking around 8 hours for the team of specialist technicians to complete before it is shipped to Aston Martin HQ in Gaydon, Warwickshire, to be installed in the car.
Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and CEO, commented: “To have the ability to design and then manufacture our own high-performance engines in-house is something very special. It gives us ultimate control of quality and that all-important character for which Aston Martin cars are renowned. I have no doubts that our new twin-turbo V12 is the start of an even greater era of success.”
